Mama Kang's recipe for a spicy and tasty bowl of stir fried octopus!

spicy stir-fried octopus, or 낙지 볶음 (pronounced nakji bokkeum)

Nakji Bokkuem is a spicy stir fried octopus dish that is served with other stir fried vegetables, rice, egg, and crushed seaweed! It can also be served with noodles as well as beansprouts! It's a very yummy korean dish!

ingredients (for 1 serving):

Recipe:

  1. If you are using raw octopus, clean it with salt and water -- this helps get out all sand and dirt. If you are using frozen octopus, thaw it out.
  2. Boil water & cook octopus slightly (for about 30 sec to 1 min) & then strain. You don't want to cook if for too long, or else it becomes too chewy.
  3. In a separate pan, pour in cooking oil and crushed garlic. Stir fry for about 1-2 minutes.
  4. Add sliced onions, sliced carrots, and sliced jalenpeno. Mix and stir. Allow it to cook for about 5-6 minutes.
  5. Add Red Pepper Paste, Korean Chilli Pepper Flakes, and Soy Sauce & mix until evenly distributed
  6. Cut octopus into fourths and then add it to the pan and stir
  7. Add sesame oil.
  8. Mix more and add more Red Pepper Paste if you need more spice.
  9. Once it is all cooked, serve with rice, cooked egg, and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds!
